Abiding in Jesus: The Key to a Fruitful Life
In the context of Christian theology, "abide" (or "remain") is a verb that means to continue to dwell or reside in a place or state. It can also imply a sense of stability and permanence.
In John 15:4-8, Jesus is using the word "abide" to describe his relationship with his disciples and the importance of their abiding in him. He is saying that if they remain in him and he in them, they will bear much fruit and be able to overcome the challenges and difficulties of life.
The idea is that just as a branch cannot bear fruit unless it remains attached to the vine, so too, the disciples cannot live a fruitful and fulfilling life unless they remain connected to Jesus. By "abiding" in him, they can receive his love, guidance, and strength, and be empowered to live according to his will.
