Limpopo is a province of South Africa. It is located in the north-east of the country, and borders Botswana to the west and Zimbabwe to the north. The name "Limpopo" comes from the Limpopo River, which flows through the province and forms its western border.
The province was created in 1994, when the former provinces of Transvaal and Northern Province were merged. It is the largest province in South Africa, covering an area of approximately 125,755 square kilometers (48,600 square miles). The capital of Limpopo is Polokwane (formerly known as Pietersburg), and other major cities in the province include Mokopane (formerly known as Potgietersrus) and Tzaneen.
Limpopo is a diverse province, with a mix of urban and rural areas, as well as a range of different cultures and languages. The province has a strong agricultural sector, and is also home to several important mining centers.
