Prokopyevsk (Russian: Прокопьевск) is a town and the administrative center of Prokopyevsky District in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia. It is located on the right bank of the Yenisei River, 150 kilometers northwest of Krasnoyarsk. The town was founded in 1728 as a fort to protect the Yenisei River from raids by the indigenous peoples. In the late 19th century, it became an important center of the Russian fur trade. Today, Prokopyevsk is a small town with a population of around 10,000 people. The town's economy is based on forestry and woodworking, as well as fishing and hunting.
