Elkanah - A Name with Significance in Hebrew Bible and Jewish Tradition
Elkanah (Hebrew: אלכנה, "God has purchased") is a name that appears in the Hebrew Bible and in Jewish tradition. It may refer to:
1. Elkanah, the father of Samuel, a prophet and judge of Israel (1 Samuel 1:1-28).
2. Elkanah, a Levite who was appointed as a singer in the temple by King David (1 Chronicles 6:33-47).
3. Elkanah, a priest who was involved in the reforms of King Hezekiah (2 Chronicles 31:15-19).
In Jewish tradition, Elkanah is also considered to be one of the names of God, and is sometimes used as a substitute for the name Adonai (Lord) in religious texts and prayers.
