Mort (French for "death") is a card game that originated in France and is now popular around the world. It is a trick-taking card game played with a special deck of cards, known as a "Mort deck." The Mort deck consists of 52 cards, including four suits (hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades) with 10 numbered cards in each suit (Ace through 10). In addition to these cards, there are also four special cards: the Death card, the Devil card, the Angel card, and the Fool card. These special cards have unique abilities that can affect gameplay.
The game begins with each player being dealt a certain number of cards, depending on the number of players. The remaining cards are placed face down in a pile on the table, with the top card turned over to form a discard pile. The player to the left of the dealer goes first, and they must play a card from their hand that matches the suit of the top card on the discard pile. If they do not have a card of the correct suit, they must draw a card from the deck and play it.
The game continues clockwise, with each player playing a card of the same suit as the previous card played. However, if a player has a special card in their hand, they can choose to play it at any time, regardless of the suit of the previous card. The special cards have different effects on gameplay, such as allowing a player to skip their turn or forcing another player to draw an extra card.
The game ends when one player has played all of their cards, and that player is the winner. If no player has played all of their cards after a certain number of rounds (usually 10), the game is considered a draw, and no one wins.
