The Tallet: A Variable Unit of Measurement in the Middle Ages
Tallet (also spelled talle or tall) was a unit of length used in the Middle Ages and earlier. It was defined as the length of a man's outstretched arm from fingertip to fingertip, with the arm held straight out to the side. This made it a variable unit of measurement, as people come in different heights and arm lengths.
The tallet was used for measuring distances and lengths in everyday life, such as the size of a field or the length of a piece of cloth. It was also used in land surveying and construction projects. However, as more standardized units of measurement were developed, the use of the tallet declined and it is no longer widely used today.
