Understanding Incongruity: When Things Don't Fit Together
Incongruous means "not in harmony or inconsistent".
For example, if you wear a formal suit to a casual outdoor event, your attire would be incongruous because it doesn't match the setting or atmosphere. Similarly, if you use a very formal tone of voice when speaking to a friend in a relaxed setting, your language would be incongruous.
Incongruity can also refer to things that are out of place or don't belong together, such as a luxury car parked outside a small cabin in the woods.
