Understanding Acromial Pain and Its Treatment Options
Acromial refers to the acromion, which is a bony projection on the top of the scapula (shoulder blade) that forms part of the shoulder joint. The acromion is a flat, curved bone that projects outward from the scapula and forms the superior aspect of the shoulder joint. It articulates with the head of the humerus (upper arm bone) to form the glenohumeral joint.
In some cases, the acromion can become inflamed or irritated, leading to conditions such as acromial pain or acromioclavicular joint arthritis. These conditions can cause pain and stiffness in the shoulder, and may be treated with physical therapy, medication, or surgery depending on the severity of the condition.
