Understanding Antiphlogistics: Drugs and Treatments for Inflammation
Antiphlogistic refers to something that opposes or counteracts inflammation. In medicine, antiphlogistic drugs or treatments are used to reduce inflammation and alleviate symptoms associated with it, such as pain, swelling, and heat.
For example, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen and aspirin are commonly used antiphlogistics to treat conditions like arthritis, headaches, and muscle strains. Corticosteroids, such as prednisone, can also be used as antiphlogistics to reduce inflammation in the body.
In addition to medications, other antiphlogistic measures may include cold or heat therapy, physical therapy, and lifestyle changes like diet and exercise.
