Understanding Biosynthesis: The Process of Molecule Production in Living Organisms
Biosynthesis is the process by which cells produce complex molecules, such as proteins, carbohydrates, and fats, from simpler precursors. This process involves a series of enzyme-catalyzed reactions that convert one molecule into another through a series of steps.
Biosynthetically refers to the production of a particular compound or molecule within a living organism through biosynthesis. For example, "biosynthetic pathway" refers to the series of enzyme-catalyzed reactions that produce a specific compound within a cell.
In contrast, synthesis in general refers to the production of a compound from simpler precursors, whether it occurs naturally within a living organism or artificially through human intervention. So, while all biosynthesis is synthesis, not all synthesis is biosynthesis.
