Understanding Cimices and Their Impact on Human Health
Cimices (plural of cimic) refers to a type of blood-sucking insect that is known to feed on the blood of mammals, including humans. The most common species of cimice is the bed bug (Cimex lectularius).
Bed bugs are small, flat, oval-shaped insects that live in cracks and crevices of furniture, mattresses, and other objects. They are nocturnal and feed on the blood of humans and other warm-blooded animals while they sleep. Bed bugs can cause itchy bites and can be a significant nuisance and health concern.
Other types of cimice include the bat bug (Cimex pipiens) and the bird bug (Cimex ornatus), which feed on the blood of bats and birds, respectively.
