Understanding Endocarpal Structure and Development in Fruits
Endocarpal refers to the inner layer of the fruit wall, specifically the layer that covers the ovary wall. It is a term used in botanical anatomy to describe the structure and development of fruits. The endocarp is the innermost layer of the fruit wall, and it is often differentiated from the outer layers (exocarp and mesocarp) by its cellular organization and composition.
In some fruits, the endocarp may be very thin or absent altogether, while in others it may be thick and fleshy, such as in the case of drupes like peaches and plums. The endocarp can also play a role in the dispersal of seeds, as it may help to protect the seed within the fruit and facilitate its release when the fruit is ripe.
