Understanding the Abdominal Region: Organs, Protection, and Medical Terms
The abdomen is the part of the body that lies between the chest and the pelvis. It includes the stomach, small intestine, kidneys, pancreas, and other organs. The abdomen is protected by the rib cage and the muscles of the abdominal wall.
In medical terms, "abdominal" refers to anything related to the abdomen, such as abdominal pain, abdominal surgery, or abdominal exercises. Abdominal can also refer to the abdominal cavity, which is the space inside the abdomen that contains the organs mentioned above.
For example, if someone has a stomachache, they might say they have an "abdominal pain." If a doctor performs surgery on the abdomen, it's called an "abdominal surgery." And if you do exercises to strengthen your core muscles, such as crunches or sit-ups, they are considered "abdominal exercises."
