Understanding the Anatomy of the Subclavicular Region
Subclavicular refers to the area located just below the clavicle (collarbone) bone. It can be used to describe various structures and landmarks in this region, such as:
1. Subclavian vein: A vein that runs down the lateral aspect of the arm, beneath the clavicle, and drains into the axillary vein.
2. Subclavian artery: An artery that arises from the aortic arch and supplies blood to the arm, running down the lateral aspect of the arm beneath the clavicle.
3. Subclavian nerve: A nerve that runs down the lateral aspect of the arm, beneath the clavicle, and provides sensation to the arm and shoulder.
4. Subclavian fossa: A depression in the clavicle bone, located just below the neck, where the subclavian vein and artery pass through.
5. Subclavian triangle: A triangular space located superior to the first and second ribs, bounded by the clavicle, the first and second ribs, and the sternum. This space contains the subclavian vessels and nerves.
