Understanding the Post-Ordovician Period: A Geologic Time Period of Significant Change
Post-Ordovician refers to the geologic time period that followed the Ordovician Period, which lasted from approximately 485.4 million to 443.8 million years ago. The Post-Ordovician Period is also known as the Silurian Period and lasted from approximately 443.8 million to 416 million years ago. During this time, the Earth experienced a significant cooling trend, and the supercontinent of Gondwana began to break apart. The Post-Ordovician Period was characterized by the development of complex marine ecosystems and the evolution of new species of plants and animals.
