Understanding Undernotes in Music

Undernote is a term used in music to describe a note that is played below its written pitch. It is also known as a "bend" or a "blue note." When a musician plays an undernote, they lower the pitch of the note slightly, creating a more relaxed and bluesy sound.

For example, if a musician is playing a C note on a saxophone, they might intentionally play it at a slightly lower pitch, say Bb, to create an undernote effect. This can add a sense of tension or release to a musical phrase, depending on how it is used.
