What does dilute mean?
Dilute means something that is weakened or made less concentrated by adding more water or another substance. For example, a dilute solution of soap is one that has been mixed with a lot of water, so it's not as strong as a concentrated solution of soap.
In chemistry, dilution can also refer to the process of dissolving a solid or liquid in a solvent, such as water or alcohol, to make a solution. In this case, the amount of solute (the substance being dissolved) is reduced relative to the amount of solvent, so the solution is diluted.
In everyday language, people might use the word "dilute" to describe something that is weakened or made less intense, such as a dilute version of a flavor or a dilute form of a medicine that has been watered down.
