What is a Granddam?
A granddam is the mother of one's grandmother. In other words, it is the maternal grandparent of one's parent.
For example, if your mother's mother is still alive, she is your grandmother and her mother (your great-grandmother) would be your granddam. Similarly, if your father's mother is deceased, then your father's mother's mother (your great-great-grandmother) would be your granddam.
The term "granddam" is not as commonly used as "grandmother," but it is a correct and formal way to refer to the maternal grandparent of one's parent.
