What is an Anaboly?
Anaboly (plural: anaboles) is a term used in botany to describe the part of a plant that grows above the ground, such as the stem, leaves, and flowers. The word is derived from the Greek words "ana" meaning "up" and "ballein" meaning "to throw", suggesting the idea that these parts of the plant are thrown upwards or grow above the ground.
In contrast to the anaboly, the part of the plant that grows below the ground, such as the roots, is called the "geophyte" (from the Greek words "ge" meaning "earth" and "phyte" meaning "plant").
