What is an Underwriter?
An underwriter is a financial institution or individual that provides funding for a loan or investment. They assess the risk of lending money to a borrower and determine the appropriate interest rate and other terms of the loan based on that risk. Insurance companies also use underwriters to evaluate the risk of insuring a particular policyholder and set premiums accordingly.
In simple words, an underwriter is someone who evaluates the creditworthiness of a borrower and decides whether or not to approve a loan or investment. They assess the risk involved and determine the appropriate interest rate and other terms of the loan based on that risk.
