What is Evil-Boding?
"Evil-boding" is an archaic or poetic term for something that forebodes or portends evil or misfortune. It is often used to describe a feeling of foreboding or unease that something bad is about to happen.
For example, in Shakespeare's Macbeth, the witches are described as "evil-boding" when they prophesy the death of King Duncan and the rise of Macbeth to the throne. The term suggests that the witches' predictions are ominous and forebode a dark and tragic outcome.
In modern English, we might use words like "ominous," "portentous," or "foreshadowing" to describe something that forebodes evil or misfortune, rather than "evil-boding."
