What is Thallogenous?
Thallogenous (from Greek thallos, meaning "a green twig" and genos, meaning "kind" or "race") refers to the ability of an organism to produce gametes (sex cells) that are capable of fertilization by other individuals of the same species. In other words, thallogenous organisms can breed with others of their own kind to produce offspring.
This term is often used in contrast to allogenous organisms, which are unable to produce gametes that can fertilize members of their own species and must breed with individuals of a different species or genus to produce offspring.
