Discover the History and Charm of Crownsville, Maryland

Crownsville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. The community is located on the south shore of the Chesapeake Bay, approximately 15 miles southeast of Annapolis and 25 miles east of Baltimore.

Crownsville was originally known as "Hansonsville" and was settled in the early 18th century by English and Scottish immigrants. The name was changed to Crownsville in the late 19th century, supposedly because the area was home to a large number of crown-shaped oak trees.

Today, Crownsville is a largely residential community with a mix of old and new homes, as well as some commercial and industrial areas. The community is served by several major highways, including Interstate 97 and Maryland Route 214, which provide easy access to nearby cities and attractions.

One of the most notable features of Crownsville is the Crownsville Hospital Center, a psychiatric hospital that was established in the early 20th century and has been expanded and renovated over the years. The hospital is now known as the Crownsville Hospital Campus and offers a range of mental health services for adults and children.

In addition to the hospital, Crownsville is also home to several other attractions, including the Crownsville Heritage Museum, which features exhibits on the history and culture of the area, and the Crownsville Historic District, which includes several historic homes and buildings. The community also hosts several annual events, such as the Crownsville Fair and the Chesapeake Bay Festival.
