Kokura (国府) was a city located in the northern part of Kyushu, Japan. It was an important political and economic center during the Heian period (794-1185 CE) and was known for its beautiful gardens and temples.
In 1890, the city was renamed Kokuraminami (国府南) and became a major center for the mining industry in Japan. The city continued to grow and develop throughout the 20th century, and today it is known as the city of Kitakyushu (北九州市).
Kokura is also famous for its traditional crafts, such as Kokura yuzen (dyeing) and Kokura kime-gawa (weaving), which are still practiced today. The city is also home to many historic sites and landmarks, including the Kokura Castle and the Kokura Shiryo Museum.
