Saint Anacletus - Third Pope of Rome and Christian Martyr

Anacletus (also known as Cletus or Cleto) was a Christian martyr and one of the early popes of Rome. He is venerated as a saint by the Catholic Church and his feast day is celebrated on April 26.

According to tradition, Anacletus was born in Greece and was elected as the third bishop of Rome after the death of Saint Peter. He served as pope from around 76 to 88 AD and was known for his efforts to establish order in the Church and to combat heresy.

Anacletus is also remembered for his role in the controversy over the celebration of Easter, which was a major issue in the early Christian Church. He supported the practice of celebrating Easter on the Sunday following the Jewish Passover, rather than on the 14th day of the month of Nisan as some other churches did.

Anacletus was martyred during the reign of the Roman Emperor Domitian, who was hostile to Christians and ordered his execution. He was buried on the Appian Way outside Rome, where a basilica was later built in his honor.
