The Forgotten History of Sadirons: A Look Back at the Early Days of Fabric Smoothing
Sadiron is an archaic term for a flatiron, which is a device used to smooth out wrinkles in fabric. It was commonly used in the 19th and early 20th centuries before the invention of electric irons. The word "sadiron" is derived from the French word "ciseaux," meaning "scissors," because the tool was originally made with two flat plates that were hinged together like scissors. Over time, the term "sadiron" fell out of use and was replaced by the more modern term "iron."
