Uncovering Kuhnia - The Prehistoric Sea Cow
Kuhnia is a genus of extinct sea cows that lived during the Eocene and Oligocene epochs, around 50 to 23 million years ago. They were large marine mammals that were related to modern manatees and dugongs. The name "Kuhnia" was coined by paleontologist J. G. M. Thewissen in 1976, and it is derived from the Greek word "kuon," meaning "sea monster."
