Understanding and Managing Epistaxis: Causes, Treatment, and When to Seek Medical Attention
Epistaxis is a condition where the nose bleeds. It can be caused by a variety of factors, such as dry air, allergies, colds, sinus infections, and injuries to the nose. Treatment for epistaxis usually involves applying a cold compress or ice pack to the bridge of the nose, keeping the head elevated, and avoiding blowing the nose. In some cases, medications such as nasal decongestants or antihistamines may be prescribed to help reduce swelling and congestion. If the bleeding is severe or does not stop after 20-30 minutes, medical attention should be sought.
