Understanding A.U.C.: An Alternative Dating System for Archaeology and History
A.U.C. stands for "Anno Urbis Condita" which is Latin for "In the year of the founding of the city". It is an alternative way of dating the years, used mainly in archaeology and history, that starts from the traditional date of the founding of Rome, 753 B.C.
For example:
* 2018 A.U.C. = 2761 years after the founding of Rome
* 2018 C.E. = 2018 Common Era (the current era)
This dating system is used to avoid the religious connotations of the traditional Christian era dating, and to provide a more neutral and accurate way of referring to the years.
