Understanding Bronchia: The Air Tubes of the Lungs
Bronchia (plural of bronchus) are the air tubes that branch off from the trachea (windpipe) and lead to the lungs. They are responsible for carrying air in and out of the lungs, and play a crucial role in the respiratory system. Each lung has two main bronchi, one for the right lung and one for the left lung, which divide into smaller bronchioles that terminate in the alveoli (air sacs) where gas exchange takes place.
Bronchia can be affected by various conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and bronchitis, which can cause inflammation, narrowing, or blockage of the airways, leading to breathing difficulties.
