Understanding Hor, the Ancient Egyptian Unit of Time
Hor is a unit of time used in ancient Egypt, equivalent to about 10 hours of modern time. It was divided into 36 decans, each lasting approximately 40 minutes. The day began at sunrise and was divided into two periods: the first 12 hours were called the "daytime" and the second 12 hours were called the "nighttime".
The word "hor" is derived from the Egyptian language and is still used in some contexts today, such as in the naming of the hours on an Egyptian sundial. However, it is no longer widely used as a unit of time measurement.
