Understanding Jawbones: Functions, Types, and Common Issues
Jawbones are the bones of the skull that form the lower jaw and hold the lower teeth in place. They are also known as the mandible or the mandibular bone. The jawbones are responsible for the movement of the jaw during activities such as eating, speaking, and breathing. They are connected to the skull by a hinge joint called the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), which allows for movement of the jaw in multiple directions.
