What is Monohydrated? Definition and Examples
Monohydrated refers to a substance that contains one mole of water. In other words, it is a compound that has one water molecule for every one mole of the main component.
For example, calcium sulfate hemihydrate (CaSO4·0.5H2O) is a monohydrated compound because it contains one water molecule for every two moles of calcium sulfate. Similarly, silicic acid (SiO2·nH2O) is a monohydrated compound because it contains one water molecule for every n moles of silicon dioxide.
In contrast, a dihydrate compound contains two water molecules for every one mole of the main component, while a trihydrate compound contains three water molecules for every one mole of the main component.
