Understanding Defacement: Definition and Examples
To deface means to damage or disfigure something, usually intentionally. It can also refer to the act of spoiling or marring something that was once beautiful or attractive.
For example, if someone vandalizes a building by spray-painting graffiti on its walls, they have defaced the building. Similarly, if someone purposely scratches or breaks a valuable object, they have defaced it.
In a more abstract sense, defacing can also refer to the act of ruining someone's reputation or character. For instance, if someone spreads false rumors about someone else, they may be attempting to deface that person's reputation.
