The Brave Faith of Abednego
Abednego is a name that appears in the Bible, specifically in the book of Daniel. It is the name given to one of the three Hebrew boys who were thrown into a fiery furnace by King Nebuchadnezzar for refusing to worship him. The other two boys were named Meshach and Shadrach.
The name Abednego is derived from the Hebrew words "av" meaning "father" and "nedeg" meaning "grace." Together, the name means "father of grace."
In the story of Daniel 3, King Nebuchadnezzar orders his officials to bring him some young men of noble birth who are wise and skilled in literature and wisdom. The three boys, Meshach, Shadrach, and Abednego, are chosen and are trained in the king's court. However, when the king commands them to worship him as a god, they refuse, citing their belief in only one God. As a result, they are thrown into a fiery furnace, but they emerge unscathed, thanks to the intervention of an angel who protected them.
The story of Abednego and his two friends is often seen as an example of faithfulness and courage in the face of adversity, and their refusal to compromise their beliefs is celebrated as a testament to their faith in God.
