Understanding Supracondylar Anatomy and Injuries
Supracondylar refers to a location or structure that is situated above (or superior to) the condyle, which is the rounded end of a bone where it meets another bone to form a joint. In the context of anatomy, the term supracondylar is often used to describe structures or landmarks that are located near the top of the humerus (upper arm bone), such as the supracondylar fossa (a depression or indentation on the superior surface of the humerus) or the supracondylar line (a ridge or groove that runs along the superior surface of the humerus).
In medical contexts, the term supracondylar may be used to describe injuries or conditions that affect the area above the condyle, such as a supracondylar fracture (a break in the humerus bone above the condyle) or a supracondylar sprain (a stretch or tear of the ligaments or tendons near the top of the humerus).
